E Mail on I phone and I pad

Any ideas ? Sending e mail is fine while at home.

But though I can receive e mail away from home I can't send it.

It's the same for both Apple devices.

    Thanks in advance

The iPhone will use 3 or 4G. The iPad may only be a Wi-Fi device - you don't say if it has 3 or 4G.
Do you only have one email provider?

I have seen this kind of problem before. You've probably got to change the SMTP server for outgoing mail, but unfortunately this may require
more checking to find which providers are compatible. Some providers will pass on emali through their servers, while others won't. Once you've found out what to do, you may have to change the settings each time you go out, though if you're lucky you can find compatible settings.

I pad wi-fi only. Only one e mail provider.

I suppose I should speak to the provider. It's a fairly minor issue. Thanks Dave.

        Alison,

These are the instructions (with screen shots) that my ISP has for setting up e-mail on an iPhone or iPad: http://kb.eclipse.net.uk/display/1/i...86522513628006

The instructions might or might not be helpful but they do explain about what is needed in order to send email over 3G/4G.

I think the link gives this:

Now at least we know that the iPad is Wi-Fi only, so it won't work unless connected to a Wi-Fi hotspot, or perhaps a Mi-FI device which provides similar functionality.
For the iPad, Alison should first try to connect to a hotsport - usually a password, and maybe a dedicated user name needed, and then try email. Some providers will work with the existing email set up, others not.

Re the iPhone, probably best to check with the network provider if using 3 or 4G, though it should also be able to send via Wi-Fi in the same way as an iPad.
