    Mac Insomnia

Usually I put my IMac into sleep mode when it's not in use, I only do a complete shut down if I'm going away.. However, recently the little beast has taken to waking up from sleep after a few minutes. If I select sleep it obeys, but promptly wakes up again after about ten minutes.
All other functions are normal, so I can always shut down and re-boot, but it's a bit tiresome having to do that every time I use the machine.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated. It's an Imac20 using Snow Leopard.

Stop sharing a cup of coffee with the mac in the morning in the morning when you surf the net? Seriously, I had a MacBook many years ago that did the same thing. I then started using it as a music server only when I upgraded computers. In that capacity I left it turned on all the time for several months. I gave it to one of my sons after a while when he needed a computer and the insomnia seems to be cured.

I used to leave my iMac (Snow Leopard) in Sleep mode for the first year or so after I had it. Then I couldn't see much reason to do so and I shut it down each night.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I was having sleep problems with my iMac recently. In my case I use Energy Saver to engage sleep automatically, but that had stopped happening. I followed online advice and shut down Google Chrome when leaving the machine for any length of time. That solved the problem.

Generally speaking, I only shut down my iMac and MacBook if I'm going away on holiday. Otherwise they're on all the time and sleep automatically after a set period of inactivity.

I seem to have resolved the difficulty, but I don't know why. Acting on impulse, I simply disconnected my printer and now the Mac stays asleep until I choose to wake it! I haven't yet re-comnnected the printer, so I suppose another check will be necessary, but at the moment all seems well, thanks for the tips !
