It has two seperate channels so there is a bit of stereo seperation but of course there won't be much of that from such a small enclosure. However I usually play it at low volumes ( we don't want the Hotel Management ejecting us during the Finale of Janacek's Sinfonietta) and it keeps the wife and I entertained and frees us from headphones when we read our books late at night.
If you want something that is truly high end, I recommend powered speakers from Audioengine. Their smallest model goes for around $200 and truly sounds great. I think that these stretch the limits of what would be considered acceptable as portability for travel, however.
    Hiya richardfinegold,

Just ordered the a NuForce Cube Portable Speaker, Headphone Amp, and Audiophile USB DAC in Silver from Divine Audio for £55 inc. p&p.

I really like the look of the Minirig Portable Speaker but it looks to have too much power for a hotel room and slightly bigger than wanted for the luggage.

It seems like you got a good price. I hope that you enjoy it.

Probably thinking "Bloody hell, why do they have to make such a racket? They're as bad a as the people who want to find a MacDonald's everywhere they go."

(I realise the OP is going to play his music in the privacy of his hotel room - with due consideration for his neighbours. At least, I think - hope - he is)

I was hoping that the motorbikers had triggered a yak stampede with their tunes and had their bikes smashed to bits.

My wife and I are spending this weekend at a Bed and Breakfast in Wisconsin celebrating our anniversary. I brought the cube and am listening to it now. Our room has a sitting room and I had placed the computer/cube combo there but it just didn't project enough into the bedroom so I moved it. It is a great device but inevitably given it's dimensions and price there are bound to be some limitations.

At least it won't play loud enough to trigger a yak stampede.
