    I might ask.
I tried to buy a small quantity of isopropyl alcohol at a well-known chemist's and failed - not allowed, due to rules. Could have been the Gomorrah branch, or Sodom.

Extraordinary, isn't it? I can buy a flammable liquid and have it posted, but not to take away from the chemist. A friend brought me 150ml, a lifetime's supply.

My Sennheiser headphones make quite a decent sound too.

To my mind, there's a lot of hogwash spoken about CD players: a DAC is in principle a simple thing: just a network of resistors, albeit that they need to be made to tight tolerances; not difficult these days, and they are usually etched onto the chip. The clocking mechanism needs to be accurate, but these days that isn't difficult. Linearity in any associated low-level amplifiers is very easy to achieve.

In my experience, the jumping effects in CD players are usually nothing to do with the laser, but are caused by the drying-out of the grease on the driving mechanism. A bit of IPA dissolves the old grease and an application of new grease usually solves the problem.

In fact good headphones probably give you the best sound of the lot. Only thing is that if listening to an LP (depending on condition) the surface noise is a bit more prominent.

I always edit on headphones (not that I do that much now) as you can hear any slight clicks or glitches more obviously than on squeakers, and then re-edit and/or put in a cross fade.

I think you will find that they contain little speakers
(I'm more a Bayer or AKG man myself, not a huge fan of Sennheiser)
