Ironically, iPlayer has just asked me to fill in a q'aire on how good I thought the page was etc etc.
I told them it was an unmitigated disaster and the whole revamp had at the very least trebled the length of time and fiddling it cost me to find stuff.

Thanks. That's what I've been doing, and now realise the pop-out is the only option for the current programme, whether via the double square or the simple arrow. For playing a previous programme there is also the option of playing it in its main window by using the simple arrow (which is, in fact, what I've always used in that case).

It really annoys me. I always used to keep up with the R6Extra comedy programmes by going to that category and seeing immediately which new episodes were available as I went through the alphabetical list. Now I have to stop at each one of interest, click on it to go and see what episodes are there, often find we've already watched them, and click back out to continue the search. What an unnecessary palaver!

Does anyone try these changes from the point of view of the user?

I checked with Jean, and she is using the same ISP as I am - Plusnet. This would seem to give support to Bryn's idea. Are there any other Plusnet users here? It would be interesting to know if you are having similar problems.

I tried via the radio 3 schedule page, my usual way , and I can't seem to get anything to work.

I use John Lewis Broadband. (posh , Eh? !!)

Edit: Its working ok on my ipad , but not laptop. (both through the same ISP).

Edit: Looks like a problem at the BBC end ......

Real-time problems and issues for the BBC iPlayer. Is the iPlayer not working properly? Can't listen to radio or view video? Here you see what is going on.

My situation is now as follows. I cannot play any BBC Radio of any kind on iplayer, I get the dreaded "Sound of Silence" message (which seems completely bizarre to me). I have raised the issue with PlusNet (my ISP), and am awaiting developments with no great confidence that anything will happen. I also reported the fault using the iplayer form, I have no great expectation of any reply or advice there. I tried using Chrome instead of IE and it made no difference. I would love to re-listen to the wonderful "Faust" which was broadcast this evening, not to be able to do so is maddening. Tomorrow I might try my laptop in a public wifi of some kind, i.e. avoiding my ISP, to see if this helps.

I have every confidence that you will have no need to seek out a wife hotshot.

I took my laptop to a coffee shop with wifi this afternoon. R3 iplayer worked perfectly!!!

This would seem to confirm that the problem is with Plusnet. (Unless anyone has any other suggestions?)

No reply to my support ticket yet.

There was deffo a problem at the BBC end.

I got home this evening to find the iplayer working. A reply from PlusNet Support indicated that the problem lay with the BBC, and directed me to an iplayer page which says:

Radio programmes – Problems with iPlayer Radio since 22 April
                        2014 on PC and Mac

                        ***Updated 23 April 2014***
We are aware of reports from some users unable to play radio programmes
online via BBC iPlayer Radio on PC and Mac computers.

Some users have encountered the error message, ‘Content not
                        working
                        '.

We are aware that live streams of national BBC Radio
stations were not offering any sound on the morning of Wednesday 23 April but
                        this has now been fixed.

These issues are currently under investigation
and when we obtain further information it will be added to this FAQ.

I am none the wiser as to what has been going on, but am thankful that it now seems to be alright.
