    Listen Again on iPad

A rookie iPad user, based, I think, in the USA, has asked:

"I have just bought an iPad. I can access Radio 3 via my internet browser for listening to streaming radio, but I have been unsuccessful in my attempt to listen to a recorded program via iPlayer. The program apparently loads (moving circle shows up over photo), but the slider and start button don't show up. Do I need to load iPlayer software into the iPad? Is there somewhere on the BBC Radio site which will take me through the installation process?"

Not being an iPad user, I couldn't help. Any suggestions?

I know, since I've done it recently, that it's possible to download videos for watching later via the iPad iplayer app. Perhaps the recent changes to split the video and audio apps have introduced differences, and one other factor might be the hint about listening from the USA. One or two of our US based members might be able to say whether it'll work from there. It is perhaps possible that some streams or downloads could be blocked because of location.

Definitely try the apps as a first attempt - not sure if this one helps as well - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/ipla...560458506?mt=8
        - now seems to be by the same developer, and is possibly the latest BBC authorised version for listening to radio.

Thanks, Stunsworth and Dave, for the guidance. I am the iPad rookie from San Diego. I had looked in the music section of the App Store for a BBC iPlayer app, but hadn't spotted it. I have now read the iTunes pages from your links and will search via iTunes as soon as I get back on my iPad. Many thanks for your expertise. I will report on my progress as soon as I have searched. I was trying to play "Listen Again" programmes via my internet browser, but without success.

I feel like adding - how about sending a cheque to the BBC for the licence fee whilst you are at it .

If you cannot find the app in the App Store try changing the selection criteria at the top of the screen from iPad only to iPhone only.

You'll find it if you search on "iPlayer" in the App Store on the iPad - assuming its available outside of the UK.

It's a dual format app, so there are versions for both iPad and iPhone.

I take it that was not actually addressed to me?

I know people in the United States who would be more than willing to stump up a subscription for what they watch or listen to. But you'd have to be daft to stick a cheque in the post addressed to ... well, who? "Please pay the BBC ..."

No - to those overseas watching for free who can afford to pay.

The BBC were proposing to introduce exactly that last year, though only for selected programmes I seem to remember.

Can anyone help with the difference between the apple apps "iplayer" and "iplayer radio" with the latter apparently available only in a version for the iPhone?

I have both on my ipad. The advantage of iplayer radio is that I don't have to wade through a lot of drivel about TV programmes I'm not in the least interested in. Technically they appear to be the same.

Hello, everyone. Here's your rookie iPad user from California again. I confess that it was a case of rookie operator error which kept me from listening to Radio 3 recorded programs. I returned today, tried again, and am listening to Tuesday evening's BBCNOW concert as I type. I used Safari to get to the iPlayer program page. I could not find an app for the BBC radio, but I will now follow the advice given above to look to see if "iplayer radio" is available to me in this country. I don't think I need it as long as the web pages will play the programs.

By the way, as far as I know, BBC video is not available outside the UK, not even the video clips on the program pages. If I click on a video, I get a banner with a message to that effect across the picture. Thank you for your helpful suggestions in this thread.

Must admit I've never quite understood how an I pad knows where you are. Is this something you can tweak to fool the system to your advantage ?
