    BBC Sounds: in-app download issues?

In the past couple of days, downloading programmes within the BBC Sounds app on both my iPhone and my iPad have been failing more often than succeeding.

    Anyone else have this issue?

When clicking on ‘download’, they either remain at “Queued” or show as “Failed”.....

I’ve followed the advice on the BBC Sounds page, and deleted the app from my iPad and reinstalled it, which is supposed to resolve things - but it hasn’t (and in the process I’ve lost all existing downloads there)

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I have not tried downloading from within the Sounds app. However, I have had no such problems with get_iPlayer on a Widows 10 machine. There is a Mac option: https://www.squarepenguin.co.uk/downloads/mac-os-x/

There seem to be a few problems with Sounds on iPads at the moment. We have the issue of the "Play" button disappearing.
Here is the list of known issues:

Many thanks - very helpful. This recent entry is very germane, and reassuring that the issue does not appear to be at my end: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/help/is...downloads-fail

I have had this happen randomly. Much more annoying is on two occasions 95% of my downloads disappear (considering I usually have three to four weeks worth of shows, this can be annoying) If you then start to download on mass it seems to fail more. I've not contacted the beeb about the mass disappearance of shows as I'm sure they would not believe me (I would not if I had not seen it with my own eyes)

            OP you have my sympathies!

Ah, so this is very much a mobile phone issue. My earlier comment was aimed at computer downloads.

Cheers. (I’ve never had the ‘random mass deletion of downloads’ issue, very annoying....)

We couldn’t be dealing with just a display problem could we .... ????? .. I deleted the app and all my Skellers downloads and tried to download yesterday’s Skellers ...... it seemed to be stuck at Queued and not moving to download ...... but it has been put in My Downloads ....... So I took my iPhone for a walk and pressed play ..... and it played miles away from the old homestead even when I had switched off 4G and Bluetooth ..... so it looks to a thicko as if the file/download is there .......

I had a few varied results... “Queued”, “100%”, “Failed”... but none has produced a playable download. You were lucky.

Randomly, though, a couple of attempts this morning did result in “Downloaded” and a tick... so I at least have playable downloads of Sounds of Cinema and Jazz Record Requests for my constitutionals....

Well it looks as though you will soon be able to swear at the app - maybe even getting it to do what you ask (or maybe as in all things as Aunty knows best it will respond otherwise) - https://advanced-television.com/2020/06/03/157104/

There seems to have been an improvement today. I noticed that BBC Sounds app reloaded itself on launch this morning - a new version seems to have been released, with some slight cosmetic changes.

In addition, the download issue seems to have been resolved for the iPad, although on the iPhone there have still been more failed downloads (2) than successful (1)

Yes still a couple of fails Even on the iPad (the Kolesnikov lunchtime recital just now)

However, THANKS for reminding me of Charles Paris.... I lost him in the download deletions, essential reminder (All 3 have just downloaded with no problem; the Kolesnikov recital still doesn’t )

                              All still pretty random ....
