My impression is that they’ve improved it. Unlike last time, I found I could use it quite happily by ignoring all the get-up (e.g. “Hot Podcasts” ) and going straight either to ‘See All Stations & Schedules’ and clicking the calendar symbol of the relevant station, or going direct to ‘My Sounds’ for programmes I’ve downloaded. Finding previous episodes of particular programmes seems less clunky than in the iPlayer app.

I’ve a feeling I’ll get used to it reasonably quickly but (as with listening to R3 itself) it’s only tolerable by finding techniques to avoid the nonsense.

I couldn’t find an Autoplay button that way... Everything I’ve used it to listen to so far is through the ‘My Sounds’ tab, i.e. programmes I’ve downloaded in case I want to listen to them when away from the WiFi (which currently includes part of where I live). On the ‘My Sounds’ page, there is a cog symbol top right which gives access among other things to an Autoplay button. Having switched it to Off, it seems to have stayed that way. Not sure if it also governs listening to programmes currently on air, or past programmes played directly from the schedule.
Well done Rumpole I always thought you had 8 or 9 brain cells left.

Speaking purely personally I use Sounds a lot and have done since its early days and find no problems with it .......

The Sound Quality of the Messiaen Eclairs was brilliant - it needs to be. In comparison, the sound from the Usher Hall was a bit compressed, and not so well balanced. This often seems to be the case with the Usher Hall broadcasts, but maybe it's a difficult recording acoustic.

An apologist for BBC Sounds on You and Yours today - around 12:50pm here - https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m0008jdl

Some of the "reasons" seem OK, but problems remain - and I guess they don't really care about the useful features which iPlayer Radio had which Sounds, as yet, AFIIK, doesn't.

Links to Sounds, oh the irony

"So" seems to be the word of the moment in the apologist's responses.

                    Just come across this

I'm not sure if 'laminate the loss' was what one of the commenters meant but it has a certain appeal.

Somewhat biased radio “article” - referring to “newer” and “sexier” app. Newer certainly, but emotive and really not appropriate words don’t apply surely. It’s a program, for goodness sake. The relevant section starts 25:15 into the programme, as delivered via Sounds. No cueing points to indicate the start of each section - which would have been useful. Will they ever get around to doing that, or will they continue to blather on about its “cool” features, trying to attract new audiences? It’s good that they are trying to attract new listeners, and make new and useful tools, but they don’t have to do this by scrapping all of the features which worked in older software systems.

I am unsure if this is the most appropriate thread on which to raise this, but having looked at forthcoming schedules, does anybody know what Radio Three is planning for 1700 on October 6th? Is it something (additional) to worry about?

Dunno, but Radio 4 is off air for one hour at 1500 on the same afternoon.

Perhaps there is some scheduled maintenance or this is a cost saving exercise until the money comes rolling in from all the over 75s paying their ~TV licences

To force us onto R1 & 2 which don't appear to be off air at those times?

Yes, I noticed that too. Strange isn't it?

Forced to use "Sounds today" on my mobile - iPlayer NLA. It has transferred all except my downloads.

I turned off the "Autoplay" setting so don't get a crash in follow on programmes. We're told there are bonuses at the end of Podcasts (= all things on
on Sounds). There is, on Saturday review - some potentially useful extra discussion.

But, at the end of "political thinking" (Nick Robinson/Ken Clarke) just now there was nothing other than an advert tacked on - the participants cheerfully admitting they didn't know where they were appearing..... It was none other than Robin Ince and Brian Cox. I can't stand the false (and failed) comedy/bonhomie from Ince and avoid their programme at all costs. I thought I was safe, but I now have to keep "Sounds" close by, screen accessible, to turn the damned thing to pause as soon as possible. In true BBC style, I predict their commercial trailer will be appearing at annoying frequency all over "Sounds" programme replays........(or as the BBC will continue to insist "podcasts").
