iplayer sign in

After an update, my PC seems to have installed AVG Secure Browser which pops up when I start the PC instead of Google. I went to iPlayer from this new browser and was asked to sign in. I did as I do when I sign in the forum but I was told the password was too short. I tried from Google and had no problem (was not asked password etc.).

Are there any advantages in going over to this new browser and sign in with a new password? If I do, will I still be able to go to iPlayer from Google without signing in?

Not a techie, but has Google already stored your iPlayer password? Is it AVG Secure Browser that is telling you your password is too short or is it iPlayer?

For what it's worth I'd abandon AVG and stick with your normal browser, which I'm guessing is Chrome?

I’m not sure (have no idea) if it’s the browser of the BBC that’s telling me to sign in. It shows my user name, so I can’t see why they demand to know my password or rather demand to have a new, longer one.

My current (until yesterday) is Microsoft Edge. I don’t think I have installed Chrome. Would you recommend I got to Chrome? I think I’ll abandon this new browser.

One thing I have found though not 100% sure, is that youtube by AVG seems to be without those annoying yellow dots of adverts or is this just a coincident?

I feel pretty sure the problem lies with the AVG browser. Each browser has its own facility for saving passwords if so required. That said, most can also import such settings from other browsers. It seems likely that the AVG browser is simply calling on you to provided stronger passwords for your own protection. Reviews of the AVG Secure browser I have read do not rate it particularly highly for its VPN implementation.

It’s just told me that log-in to the forum is ‘not secure’. I’ll stick to MS Edge for the time being.

Yes, the "not secure" notice simply refers to the fact that the Forum uses the basic Hypertext Transfer Protocol protocol (HTTP), rather than 'secure' HTTPS. As long as you use a unique password for signing in, there should be no real problem.

Not a recognisable word, upper case, lower case, numbers and symbols, at least 10 characters - something like that. Among the most common passwords are 123456 and password …

Bryn is right. 'Not secure' means 'not secure for confidential information (like bank card details)'. We did go into the question of acquiring an https code but the cost didn't seem worth it as people don't have to give out such information anyway.
