what are stickies? this is the second time i've asked this question i didnt get an answewr

On the homepage, if you click on the title of a particular forum - e.g. Talking About Music, you'll see - threads that are permanently 'stuck' at the top of the list.

I'd better unstick the stickies I stuck, then. There are 8,704 replies to What are you listening to now ?...

i would request a thread cul-de-sac - when posters take up off topic cudgels, they could be directed up the cul-de-sac and the original thread topic continue (speaking as a reader of threads).

Stickies can be a bit irritating.If it's just one particularly important thread, , such as "What are you listening to now", its not a problem.
The Talking about music forum will produce some particularly important threads /posts from time ro time. I would suggest that a "Golden Posts/Threads" sub forum of "talking about music" would be most appropriate.
Like a little FOR3 library, a place to go for considered thought, intellectual stimulation, quality research time.
The surveys could go there, SC's Journey, anything else that is worth retaining.

What are you implying about the rest of the forum, ts?

But a reference library of stickies might be a good idea. They might be better as 'closed' threads so that people don't start chatting on them in which case they'd get glared at and sshhh'd and then they'd sulk ... Threads could be temporarily opened again (on application) for relevant additions?

The rest of the forum has a variety of wonderful qualities. Obviously.

I would suggest that this" library" should be generally closed threads, such as SC's Journey, along with perhaps an associated separate discussion thread , if that was felt to be useful.
In general, they would probably want to be closed threads, but, for instance, the R3 Survey might be kept open as its a reasonably non controversial thread (!), and it could easily be closed in any case, should toy throwing break out.

Personally, I think we should have special thread for toy throwing to which at least three or four otherwise valued members could toy throw to their heart's content.

I've created a Reference Library subforum - currently closed - under Talking About Music.

It may be easiest to remove all Sc's old posts to the 'What are you listening to?' thread, and then (me) sort through them for the symphonic journey posts and put them on a single thread. Will that end up with what people want? (the others can go back to the old thread). There will be a problem if it breaks up existing discussions. Maybe I can COPY them to the new forum?

I have a relatively calm day (fate now tempted! ) - happy to help if you let me know the best approach re: copying etc etc.

(Maybe loads of big "quotes" copied into a massive first post in the new thread in the 'library'?)

The best system would probably be to look at all Sc's forum posts and check the moderator's tick box against all the relevant posts on What are you ...? and then COPY them en bloc (instead of moving, merging or deleting) via the moderation tools over to the new forum. That won't disturb the existing threads and the next task would be to sort out the best way to present the info. Would that work?

Just had a look at the thread on SC's journey, and it is absolutely brilliant. I shall certainly refer to it often.
Thanks to those who put the work in, I know it will be appreciated by many of us.
What a great way to help spread the joy of music.
The Library as a whole could become a terrific resource. I wonder if musical links might be another resource to put in there? (Naxos library links, for example).
