Well Don, I just switched to Standard Editor - Extra formatting controls but my icons are still refusing to dangle. I feel quite deprived.

      Bert,

Well, it's obviously still a bit strange. Presumably any setting should still give sensible results. Anyway, I no longer feel deprived, and I can at least dangle or not to choice, depending on the weather.

Thanks for your help, including the mysteries of the bucket, which may come in useful.

And Standard is the default, so I think most people would be using it.

I am minded, btw, to restore Quick Reply this evening. We've kept this thread going in the What's New? display for two days and I don't see too many people racing over to have their say. So we have one strongly against (Curalach), balanced by one distinctly in favour (Bert) and two hovering, sort of in favour (Don,I think) or preferring QR (moi). Mmmmm?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It wouldn't bother me unduly if Quick Reply was to be reinstated. As you say, I do like the current arrangement but a larger text box is only a single click away (if I remember) and clicking one button is not exactly a burdensome task.

Interesting though that no-one other than the four of us commenting here has entered the discussion. Did no other users notice the change? Or did they simply not care? Or perhaps did they not care enough to be bothered to say so?

            Keep 'em guessing, I say!

Actually, although I am very loth to upset my new friend Bert, I was quite happy before, and it did give more choice at the point of sale, so to speak. The only slight advantage that I can see of the present state is that it encourages (though not forces) posters to quote from their target post, making for more clarity in following a thread. (Particularly if one is catching up later on an existing thread.) The risk of people quoting too much unnecessary text may well offset this, though.

Perhaps it was just stunned silence, as from unexpectedly seeing women wrestling in mud?

There are women wrestling in mud on this site? Two comments:

                1. Where?

                2. My word, Radio 3 must be improving if that sort of thing is relevant to their output.

Not real women I'm afraid, just similes. What I meant was they were remaining aloof and faintly amused at the sight of the four of us thrashing around getting ever deeper in the mire.

Yes, I suppose that's entirely possible. I've never really looked at the smilies, I'm afraid, but now I have and I still can't find any mud wrestling. But then it took me a while to work out what llabwons are, so perhaps I'm just being slow today.

On balance, after experiencing both options, I would like to see Quick Reply reinstated.

Not smilies but similes (echoes of Non Angli sed Angeli?).

Good grief, I really am being slow today. It must be all that restful Mozart.

                          Thanks.

Yes please - I much prefer the Quick Reply option...

I am behind Curalach 100% on this. I use 'Quick Reply'all the time. It is just that - a quick reply. Why on earth fiddle with something that works perfectly well?

                              Re-instatement please!

Edit: Oh I see that common sense has prevailed and 'Quick Reply ' has been re-instated. Would have thought FF puts enough work into this forum without having to constantly fiddle with things. Just my view

I'm something of a novice, Petrushka, and happy to explore the possibilities of the software insofar as I can without risking bringing the entire edifice down. I'm not in any hurry to change any of the colours though as I'm not sure how I managed to 'design' and load this style.

By the way, the Quick Reply also reintroduces the risk of me closing threads accidentally. Fortunately we are starting to build up a team of Hosts who will open them up again!
