Oh sure, I realise that. But it seems that there are people who preferred not to use the quote facility, or perhaps simply liked to have the no-quote option readily to hand.

Don, I don't see any "wasted space" at all.

Mmmm?
I'm not really against all the bells and whistles being there, but if the smiley box was say to the right of the text box and starting level with it at the top, rather than where the text box ends, it would save a lot of space and look better?

Do you mean where it says Post Icons? Very few people use them, but it inserts an (appropriate/) icon to the top left of your message instead of the default Post. If you start a thread the icon appears to the left of the thread title. Fun or what ...?

I'm not sure if they can be removed - would it be undemocratic to do so? It's a bit like Visitor Messaging: once you've allowed it, it's difficult to withdraw the facility.

Well, I could take a screen shot. How would I post that so that others could see it?

Erm, isn't that where the smileys are? To the right of the text box and starting just about dead level with the top of the box ...?

Photobucket is one site where you can upload your image and then post the url with the image link on the toolbar.

Don, I've just been trying to post a screenshot, but for some reason I get the error message "invalid file", whether I try from my hard disk or from Photobucket. I'll keep trying, but in the meantime would be interested to see yours.

No. Mine start at the level where the text box ends, and dangle in mid air to the lower right. I have just taken a screen shot as a jpg. Can I show it by some method?

                      Oh Bert,
Of course I had read your posts and understood that you did not seek to impose your view on anyone.

You did however raise the issue, as a result of which a change was made, which in my view restricts the options available to members. No attack was intended and if you feel I have offended you, please accept my apology.

It was not clear that the change, when made, was a trial, it read like a fait accompli, hence my response.

Don, write a reply ("Here's the screenshot" or whatever) and click the 14th icon in the second row above the text-entry box (hover your mouse over it and you'll see "Insert Image". Then follow the instructions.

For some reason it's not working for me this morning, though I've posted images in replies several times before now.

I have a screenshot and will try to post via photobucket (never used before). I have a feeling I may have disabled the direct uploading of images.

That would explain my problems, though Photobucket's not working for me today either.

Curalach, misunderstandings all round, obviously. Apology accepted.

See if this works (hasty joining of photobucket):

Not approved of - they take up an awful lot of space on the site. url image links much preferred, though of course it means uploading to file sharing site first.
