I was wondering if it is possible to obtain an ipod or similar that doesn’t cap/limit the volume? I suspect this is an attempt to protect the ears? Currently I have an Apple ipod Nano with camera 16GB (5th Generation). I love this ipod for its large memory, ease of use and compact size but it is useless on aircraft and trains etc owing to the background noise. Any suggestions will be greatly welcomed. Many thanks.

A friend has an iPod that he bought in the US that doesn't have the EU volume governnor - one of the many disbenefits of the EU!
If you google around, you'll find blogs that show you how to remove it.
A better idea would be to experiment with head/earphones that have a higher sensitivity rating than the ones that you are currently using. This will make your music louder without messing around with your player.

You can only make a choice if you are informed
people aren't about hearing loss and how you get it .....
go the whole hog and liberalise everything if that's your gig
but don't complain when you get food poisoning or worse
I'm a great fan of loud music BUT it is important that you protect your hearing
"personal choice" isn't really the issue
should I have the "choice" to play music so loud that my children go deaf ?
I guess you think I should
