I really don't recognise this description of iTunes. I don't use it for download storage/playback on my 2007 Macbook (I use the slick and beautiful XBMC), I tend only to stream classical radio through it, and I'm never bothered by - or even see - the things you mention. Occasionally I've been invited to do a free software update (usually a good idea) but most of the time I just connect and play...

Again, no problems with Adobe Flash here... Word, have you tried installing the latest (or at least a later) version?

My hatred of Flash is mainly for historical reasons; in part down to the way it was used (lots of stupid little animations and intrusive adverts that did nothing but waste clock cycles) and the fact that when Safari crashes it's almost invariably due to Flash.

The latest versions are much better, more stable and they include GPU acceleration on the Mac, but I would strongly recommend the ClickToPlugin Safari extension, which stops Flash and other plug-ins from running except when you specifically allow them.

Suggestion for diddy and anyone else currently having problems with the live HD R3 stream via iPlayer on the Squeezebox Touch. Apologies if you already know this.

Go to your ‘mysqueezebox.com’ page - click on favorites - under ‘add favorite’, paste in this address:

The best of the BBC, with the latest news and sport headlines, weather, TV & radio highlights and much more from across the whole of BBC Online

Name it what you like, click on ‘add’…. After you’ve done this, you’ll need your SBT to be connected to the mysqueezebox.com server. Then go to favorites, either on the Touch home page, or using the remote control function on the mysqueezebox.com page - and it should do the trick (it does for me). …No flash, so you won’t get the live text, but you should get a quick connection to the stream (at 320kbps aac), and get it without blips, skips, glitches, and remote host resetting the connection.

I’m a newbie where the Touch is concerned, but I discovered this ‘cure’ searching through the various online forums about Touch owners having problems with the HD live stream over the past year or two.

        All best wishes
        J

            Go to iTunes, and choose:
            Radio>Classical>BBC Radio 3 High.

(and don't forget to press play...)
Hey, thank you very much for this, Ms Wilson; it is wonderful. And can you get Listen Again also through i-tunes?

I don't use Listen Again much myself, but I don't see a way of getting it through iTunes - it's just the live streams, sorry.

Should mention this seems to apply for the live stream only - any listen again programme seems to work OK. I have also coincidentally changed my Internet provider and would like to know where the problem lies.
Have not been able to access Radio 3 iPlayer for the past 2 days - is anyone else having the same problem?

No problem here, with either the live stream or earlier broadcasts.

Listen Again has been using 320kbps AAC-LC since, from memory, towards the end of last year and prior to that had been has been streaming 192kbps AAC-LC for some years. If you right click on the "Radio Player" panel (around the times and slider bar) it gives shows "128kbps aac" but this is incorrect and has been incorrect for many years!

As for monitoring the streams - the evidence is that any monitoring is an best sketchy or, at worst, non-existent.

(I've noticed that now there is no specific R3HD 320kbps button for listening live. The 320kbps seems to have become become the default and the previous default of 192 kbps has been dropped (though a lower bandwidth 56kbps stream is, of course, available on the "Radio Player" panel).

thanks for that - the problem turned out to be a corrupted version of Adobe Flash Player - reinstallation solved the problem.

I shall bear that in mind in case I have the same or a similar problem with the iPlayer- glad to hear everything's now OK.
