    Posting video clips

I’ve brought this question here from the Traffic Volume thread.

Is there any way Youtube clips can be posted as links?

Yes. All you need to do is stop clicking the "insert video" icon, and they automatically show up as hyperlinks.
I'll go back and edit my previous posts-- sorry about that!

They show automatically? You don't have to click on the 'link' button and paste the url? (Just clarifying, as I don't know)
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I might be talking nonsense but, instead of clicking on the 'Insert Video' button, if you use the 'insert link' button you can paste the URL into the popup and it appears like this:

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

When you do that you will see a portion of the text highlighted (between the ']' in front of the 'http' and the [/URL]. You can replace this with any text, as in:

        Moonlight Sonata - Kempff

Yes, silly me! I'd switched off the pooter for the night when I realised. Of course, you don't have to click on the 'link' button - only if you want to create a link from part of your text (such as Moonlight Sonata - Wilhelm Kempff).

Edit: Actually, what I do is copy the url first, then highlight the text I want as a link (MS -WK), click on link and paste it in the pop up - making sure that you don't get the http:// repeated.

            ff, thanks for the tip.

[Edit] In another forum I use, it is only when you use the 'Insert Link' button that the resulting link is 'clickable', if you just paste the link into the text you have to copy and paste it into your browser. So I had assumed it was the same here, but that's not so - the software is cleverer here - both ways seem to be clickable.

              Thank you!!

ff, how about bringing this very useful platform to the top of the Index? I have a feeling that some members may not scroll down as far as to here (there is at least one member who didn’t get beyond World Music ).

I was going to rearrange the top of the forum yesterday to make it a less ... boring looking ... arrival point. But was stuck on several options which I couldn't choose between (create child boards, drop a couple of boards and move their threads to other ones). As I couldn't decide, I did nothing ... This board has an increased topicality atm, with so many of us battling with all the novelties, that it probably could be given a more prominent place (which was the purpose of the aforesaid boring looking top of page business-y stuff). Will ponder more.

johnb - the smart thing about the pop-up link box is that, if you've already CTRL/CMD + C'd your url, you then don't have to go anywhere near the pop-up address window: just CTRL/CMD + V, and that's where the paste will magically appear. [Weird: who'd have thought I'd have written a sentence like that ten years ago! ]
