I regularly listen to Radio 4 & 4 extra plays in the wee small hours. Recently there hasn't been a night when the 3Com connection hasn't shut down. This therefore includes my PC & laptop which means I have to reboot the whole system.

My daughter, who also lives in East Sussex, is experiencing the same

I'm a 'silver surfer' so if you are able to help or explain would you please bear this in mind.

I assume that you have a 3Com router that connects your PC to your broadband and you are saying that you lose connection, you can't load web pages, etc, and have to reboot the whole system.

If my interpretation is correct then this isn't really caused by a problem with the BBC iPlayer.

Instead of rebooting your PCs - have you tried switching the power to your 3Com router off, waiting say 15 seconds, and then switching the power to the router back on? (You would then have to wait for a minute or two while the router boots up and re-establishes connection of course.) It might also be worth trying a new microfilter in the phone socket.

(The problem might also be caused by a lose connection, poor wiring, BT problems, not to mention that the faceplates of some older BT Master Sockets can become a bit "iffy".)

If it isn't a router problem but is a problem with iPlayer losing connect then closing down the iPlayer window and restarting it should help, unless there are major problems with the iPlayer streaming (which can happen).

Perhaps other people more knowledgeable than me will also try to help.
