Would this be the best place to pose a simple question which puzzles me? Bryn, johnb and other techies refer to "choice of 192kbps or 48kbps on iplayer. There is currently no 320kbps audio on HD"

So, how can you see how many kbps you're getting as there appears nothing on the iplayer to indicate this?

iPlayer has a "low bandwidth" link - click on that and you'll not get 192kbps. I imagine it's 48.

The HD player does give 320kbps - direct recordings from the stream show that. But, you're right, there's no speedometer on either player so you have to put your faith in what you hear.

Thanks, johnb. Is there any reason why one should need both links - or can I just replace the present one with the HD? Will that affect anyone adversely for any reason?

My impression is that the "HD Sound" hasn't yet been incorporated in to iPlayer as such but is a separate entity, so to speak. The links to HD Sound and the standard iPlayer (live or listen again) are quite different and it isn't possible to navigate one to the other so there is merit it having both links IMO but perhaps other people might have a different view.
