I've blown enough of my cover, and ts, ferney, and constantbee already know anyway:

I'm Bass 1 (when we split), though not naturally a baritone.
We're currently learning/rehearsing Poulenc's Mass (for our July concerts), and our conductor commented last night that
Poulenc must have had a bone to pick with his first basses along the way and was getting his revenge: the part is fiendishly awkward and high (for me, at any rate), with leaps and runs up to the F sharp above middle C!

Indeed so, I sometimes wonder whether composers and arrangers have ever sung in a choir with the range they expect from sections. In MVCs F# is towards the top of T2 and B1 should really not be asked to go there!

How interesting, I assume that's Richard Rodney Barrett?

Easily a generation or two out. RRB was CC’s duo partner in the first UK performance of Boulez’s Structures Book 1, whereafter they took somewhat different paths.
