Not at all [(NB Stanfordian - Words & phrases thread, was going to say - I use it often but I lost my internet connection)]. People write whatever they think might be of interest to anyone else.

(Was going to write this some while back too, but internet connection went down AGAIN )

    Add:
Oh, golly! When I said in #8 "you can replace your location with something else you desperately want to tell people", I meant ONE can do that if ONE wants something displayed instantly. Hence my 'A' level French' which would have been a good joke when I tried to post it a couple of hours ago
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

If someone looks at a profile they will appear in the list of the last five people who have visited, towards the bottom of the screen on the left when you click on My Profile

Weren’t CSEs graded by number rather than by letter ?
Anyway, I enjoyed Pulcers’ biog, in the brief time it appeared.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

I don't either, vinteuil, I didn't have any musical qualifications at all until last year. I'm sorry to have missed Pulcinella's biographical note though.

Me too. Perhaps he should put it back up.

That explains why I only got Woodwork.

Yes, indeed - comments were made only to make clear that those of us who prefer not to share such information are as perfectly free to have their choices respected as are those who delight the rest of us with such interesting details. Please put the info back, Pulcie.

Having had to give up Music 'O' level when we moved from Swindon to Bracknell (I did get to return to Biology 'O' level which I had had to sacrifice at the Swindon school), my only 'paper' music qualification is a 'half-module' in electronic music, tacked on to my undergrad science studies at the then Middlesex Polytechnic, (how could I resist their two VCS3s, having had to sell mine when in a severe cash flow situation while active in the Scratch Orchestra). My time at Middlesex ended the semester prior to Richard B’s arrival there to teach composition.

So am I, though just as we all have a right to be quiet, it seems harsh to suggest that anyone brave enough to have put their head above the parapet without being asked should now be requested to do so again. Tantalising, isn’t it?

I always thought the features of the board were there to be used if wanted, but were not mandatory.

Of course not mandatory, but I'm happy to put mine up, especially if Pulcinella leads the way.

There are only about 20 or so characters regulararly posting, so it would be quite nice to know a little more about one another.

                      Just back from choir.
Many thanks for all these messages, and apologies for over-reacting to kindly intentioned comments taken the wrong way.
I'm using my iPad just now, but I do have the text I posted backed up on my main Mac, so will reinstate it tomorrow.
And I look forward to learning a bit about others' backgrounds too.

I have now added a few words to the relevant section for those who might be interested. The field for "interests" seems to constrain the text, but I guess we can live with that.

Reinstated, but I think I like Dave's style better, so I might rework it later, once I see the sort of things others are prepared to divulge about themselves.

Yes, I'm feeling something I said made Pulcie remove his biog . I was trying to respond in a technical way to his comment - that there was some difficulty in accessing people's profiles - by saying there was a limit to what could be displayed in a more public, more accessible way (e.g. in signatures, location field). The profile page is, of course, where people may post however much or little as they want to.

                              Fear not frenchie.
Yes, I over-reacted to vints and you, not twigging the tone of your comments, but thinking that my biog made me look like I was bragging.
