    Cancelling out of a reply

If I click 'Reply' (to a particular post) then my edit window has a 'Cancel' link. If I click 'Reply to thread' then it doesn't, and to abandon my editing session I have to close the entire window. Why?

Just an anomaly for which - offhand - I can see no reason. But you don't have to close the window to abandon your editing session - just don't Post the message and move off to whatever page, thread or view you want to look at next.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
