There have been changes since we launched the new website (the forum is perched on it) but do you log out every time? That could be the problem. If others have the same problem I'll ask Mark to look into it. I don't log out, so I don't know.

Reference to the forum's cookie policy has been prominently displayed since May 2012. If you close the homepage sidebar, you will have closed the notice. The explanation for how the forum uses cookies is explained in the link. The cookies recognise you when you return so that you don't have to log in every time if you don't want to and they indicate which threads you have read and which ones have new posts which you have not yet read. They tell you that - they don't tell us.

I don't get cookie message when logging in, but after logging out there is a message to say that cookies have been cleared. I have not consciously made any decisions/ticked any boxes about cookie preference.

We have a workaround because the software requires somes sort of additional code (I think) in order to get automatic messages.

The homepage requires users to read the Terms and Conditions before they post; and that posting is taken to mean they have read and accepted them. It explains how to open the left-hand sidebar if for some reason it isn't visible. This gives a link to the cookies policy and says, very prominently: 'By using the forum, you agree to our use of cookies.'

I'm still trying to sort out why richardfinegold keeps having to click to accept cookies …

I'm really cross to hear that you have dropped and stored cookies on my computer without permission. I have never seen or said yes to any such request.

But I've just logged out and received a "Cookies Cleared" message. I've logged in again and still NOT been asked to accept your bloody cookies.

Are there cookiies on my computer right now? Why do you need them anyway?

Not coated, just small bits.

To be clear: these are forum cookies: there are no third party cookies monitoring your internet behaviour.

Message from Mark to richardfinegold: he thinks it may be if you first go to the website to access the forum. Logging out would clear the cookies each time. Possibly. Not clear why it is you complain about having to keep accepting them while others say they're never asked

he has probably something like my use in that I generally forbid any non-site cookies and apart from a few select ones restrict all others to session only - however Firefox will reinstate tabs that were open when the computer is switched off with it seems reinstatement (or non deletion?) of some cookies - however I often find my ability to reply times out and I need to login again.

I've never bothered to find out whether yahoo whoses apis you load tries to set cookies as I always browse with javascript turned off but little would surprise about yahoo tho usually more for incompetance rather than actual malice as per farcebook, google etc

This was meant in jest, I hope. I would have thought that FF had better things to worry about then someone ranting in BOLD.
