Emoticons and toolbar missing?

I don't seem, of late, to be able to insert any of the little emoticons like the dove/beer/etc into messages and the ability to select bold or italicise words has vanished. Any ideas, please?

When you press Reply to Thread, the first thing you see at the top of the message window should be the toolbar? The full smiley menu comes with Go Advanced.

Bold, Italic and Underline use the normal buttons without needing to access the toolbar, and I usually do my smileys manually anyway with the appropriate words between colons.

Can't explain why you have no toolbar - I don't think it's possible to remove it, is it?

No, the toolbar is definitely gone and the emoticons to the right show immediately without going into "Advanced" (except they don't work!).

I have opened up the webpage in Mozilla Firefox (as opposed to Google Chrome) and it is fine there, with the toolbars at the top and working emoticons under "Go advanced". Anyone else experiencing problems using Chrome?
