How do I multi-quote?

I have been to FAQ and it says click on the multi-quote button. When I do that nothing happens and the reply box is blank. I can of course cut and paste but that doesn't separate the replies. What am I doing wrong?

The multiquote button seems to be a toggle - you can switch it on and the + becomes a tick, but what do we expect it to do anyway? (i.e. What is a multiquote?)

I was just asking whether that was what was required. I simply added the following after [QUOTE=Don Petter]:

Then I closed the quote in the usual way. Rather like the way it was done on the BBC Messageboard.

Yes, but when I go and click multi, as you can see, I only get your last. Edit Sorry, cross posting. Oh, I see now, it's not automatic multi posting like other message boards where you just scroll down and pick a message and it is automatic. You have to post separate quotes. Thanks for that.

It used to be possible (automatically) on the BBC boards but they discontinued it because it made it so easy for people to post yards and yards of ever increasing quotes which was unnecesary and a bore . I personally favour selective, edited quotes which are just enough to explain whose post is being answered. But that's just me ...

That seems reasonable. It's good to know that it's possible to quote within a quotation, but the effort it requires will prevent over-indulgence.

Just one question about cancelling membership (not that I am thinking of it!) If, after a period of reflection, a person decides to rejoin is it possible to do that with your original posting name and email address or is it that the name is 'taken' although that person is no longer here and another name would be required to avoid confusion of a new member deciding on the same name as an ex-member. Hope that makes sense!
