    Class of 2024

Welcome to all the new members - almost 60 in the past two months (is something afoot, I wonder?). I hope you'll all feel free to take part in the discussions, and start your own topics if you want to. If you meet with any problems, send me a PM (Messages at the top of the each page, on the right.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

This member of the Class of 2023 (to which most of us belong, given the restructuring of the Forum) still has great difficulties with Messages.
I received one this morning in reply to one sent, but it was a sheer fluke that I happened to click on something that enabled me to read it, after trying all sorts of other things (the notification kept being present: I could neither see anything in my Inbox nor be able to Preview).
Are there any simple usage guidance rules/suggestions anywhere?
Certainly not as intuitive as it used to be (and the email alert is much shorter too).

I don't bother with an email alert. If I look/happen to notice that Messages is flagging red with one new message, this worked perfectly just now:

Click on Messages and choose Inbox rather than Message Center [sic]. There will be a preview (the first couple of lines) of a new message with the title, eg Hello (red bold). Click on the title Hello (not intuitive) to bring up the whole message with the reply box (Write something) below it. At that point the red message flag should disappear. If it doesn't, there is a button to click Read. Perhaps it stays red if you just read the message but don't reply?

To send a message Click on Compose now.

I only bother with Inbox, Sent Items and Compose now. From Inbox you can delete messages (Send to trash) by checking the small box at the left of the message and clicking Delete. You can then go to Trash (left-hand column) and Delete permanently. I keep it simple and it seems to work.

The number of active members seems to have suddenly increased to 224 ....

No mystery. Many new members got stuck in the process of registration so I joined them all en masse. But the jump in numbers means quite a lot of them have since logged in (which is what makes them 'active' members). vBulletin admin couldn't seem to agree whether 'active' meant logged in during the last 10 or 30 days, and the new system doesn't allow us to choose the setting. But because the time frame for 'activity' is quite short that figure does shift up and down quite often
