I suspect both of us judge by our own listening habits.

I gave up televison quite easily, and am totally indifferent to the fact that I 'miss' absolutely superb programmes. I do other things that I enjoy instead. Radio has *almost* gone the same way - and the listening I do is on the iPlayer - 45 minutes this week; well, 90, because I listened to it twice.

I listened to the 45 minutes this week because I spotted a programme (Faith without God, Sunday Feature), which sounded interesting; other weeks I might listen to other programmes to assess what I thought of them, rather than because they were what I would normally want to listen to. Or because someone has mentioned a particular aspect, and I check to see whether they were right or whether I agree with them or not.

As to 'What else do I listen to?' I question the absolute need to listen to anything. I prefer to work in silence. But I may slip a CD into the player, now and again; or I might find a YouTube clip; or I might try an internet station which has been mentioned here.

Changes to Radio 3 have certainly revolutionised my listening. Life becomes a sort of Cagean experience: currently the sound of the pattering of the keyboard as I type somehow reflects the pattering of the eternal rain on the window ...

Yes, I have heard the argument: "Why don't you just shut up about Radio 3, then?" from the opposition which finds nothing wrong with today's Radio 3. They should be made to sit down and write a 10,000 word essay on why people should NOT 'shut up'.

I have some sympathy with your current listening habits. For the past few years, I have listened mainly via iPlayer, while doing yoga practices.

However I'm finding that the new weekend schedules are encouraging me to leave R3 on all evening.

I wouldn't know, personally I cannot stand opera in any shape or form.

I feel the same way about jazz, so an opera (or concert) replacing the jazz is always welcome. Saturday afternoons are a desert otherwise.

Agreed. Film music, jazz and some amateur presenter bombarding us with their "thing".
