I have written to Feedback and Complaints to complain about both the loss of one EMS show and this week's schedule being awash with 'Sound of Cinema' - there is hardly anywhere to escape from it this week (TTN, Lunchtime Concert). The rather excellent BBC 4 programme 'underscored' the notion that film music underscores visual matter, to bring out nuance of character, drama, elicit empathy, etc. A few standalone programmes would have worked but not total immersion.

license fee income rose £50m in the last completed year, and there appears to have been a large "group surplus" of approx £300m (net of the sale of TV centre)
where is that extra being spent ?I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

While I am sure there is some film music that has merit, unfortunately the wretched Sounds of Cinema slot is simply being used as yet another excuse by the station to further Classic- FMify Radio 3.

Personally I think the new Saturday sked is an improvement. But then I enjoy Jazz, and had become very bored with Operas from the Met.
I hope the new schedule is not being blamed for the drop in listener numbers, according to Rajars latest figures. It seems to me the major problem of R3 is to hold its traditional listener cachement, in the face of overall CFM-isation, as you say.
It seems to me R3 is going down the wrong route in CFM-isation. If listeners want a CFM type programme, well they can tune into to CFM -CFM probably does it better, it that's your cup of tea. R3 needs to assert its own individuality, and I feel the new Saturday schedule is a step in the right direction.Last edited by Quarky; 09-02-14, 11:35.
