This being a Third Programme forum, we shd count ourselves lucky that we have not really encountered at full blast the odium theoligicum * that can prevail on really tender subjects - such as double-dotting, notes inégales **, unequal temperament, one voice per part [OVPP] *** ...

Ah yes, I've noticed it now on the top LHS, Richard.

So apologies for clearly being so 'visually-challenged' though, somehow, I've managed to access the many forums and threads without even noticing it is there!

Beef, at the top of your page it should say
              The Radio 3 Forum
The independent forum for Radio 3 listeners

Just under that is a red bar, with buttons for Forum and What's New at the left hand end. At the right hand end is a search window. Click on What's New.

Very few postings to P+CA now that it has been banished to the dungeon. I have to say, this Forum is a much less interesting place as a result.

                  Rather like Radio 3 itself.

Not difficult to find out, but here we go....(And just the most recent...)

                      Last Night of the Proms.

                      Sea Songs, A Lamentation.

                      Prom 74. VPO.

Prom 75.Imogen Cooper and Paul Lewis Play Schubert.

The Monster Forts of Nigel Kennedy.

                      Elgar Introduction and Allegro recommendations.

Bryn Terfel Telegraph Interview- started by yours truly.

                      Prom 33:- Beethoven and Berlioz.

                      Prom 35:- Mahler Resurrection Symphony.

                      TV Proms.

Prom 34:- Vivaldi The Four Seasons

Prom 28:- Strauss, James MacMiillan and Beethoven.

Wigmore Hall Concerts on Sky Arts 2.

                      Beethoven 7.

That's as far back as the beginning of August. Recent enough for you?

I also recently started a thread on artistic standards at the Bayreuth Festival, which attracted a grand total of 4 replies, none of which, as far as I can see, were from you. However I shan't judge you as a result of that appalling ommission.

And perhaps I have been mistaken for all the years that I have been contributing here, but I wasn't previously aware that there was a quota that one was expected to fulfill. If anything is going to deter potential new posters, I am sure that would do the trick.

Merely your opinion (despite being written as pronouncements of fact), with which the majority I think would disagree. I certainly do.

                        Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I don't think 24 hours is sufficient time to make a considered judgement. Let's see how the forum is working in a month, say. Some posters will fall by the wayside, many others will be encouraged by the change in emphasis to post here again.

If, as at least one forumite averred, the Politics board was tucked well away on the main page so that you had to hunt for it, it surely won't make a ha'porth of difference if it's now on a sidebar button instead. However, for some people knowing they're causing aggravation to others seems to be part of the experience.

Clearly, the full, horrendous extent of my deviousness has not been appreciated: I don't want such an emphasis placed on political discussions of the kind that have been frequent.

The fact that so few want to continue when discussion is removed to a less obvious place seems to suggest (and I had a tiny, tiny suspicion) that some posters were more interested in grandstanding to the cheers of their supporters than discussion of what I feel to be very serious subjects.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Though of course grandstanding and petty squabbling can just as well occur on other subjects as has been mentioned. I still think that I learnt quite a bit from many of the P&CA threads, especially from posters like calum, Pabmusic and jean, though quite a few threads did get repetitive or were defaced by squabbling. If it deters the knowledgeable and honest posters from participating as well as the squabblers and grandstanders then it's a pity imo.
