    Facebook (again)

After a false start, a Facebook page has been restarted (somewhat annoyingly under my own name - and it may be TOO LATE to change over to a group). We (the FoR3 campaign) have some very interesting supporters and are making our message absolutely clear at a crucial time when we have just registered our Complaint against the BBC Trust - and told them we don't want them judging whether we are justified or not. Just the moment to demonstrate that many well-known and influential people are supporting us - including some who make a living out of the BBC/R3.

You can follow us or 'friend' us here.

I am now at my computer almost full time, so less chance to look in here (some will be glad to know!). But I still get emails ...

Enjoy the Proms and the rest of the good things that Radio 3 has to offer.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

The Facebook page seems to be set up so that people who aren't signed in cannot access it. This might be intentional, but I thought it worth mentioning.

I also got a message saying it was unavailable or that the link was wrong. Would it be helpful if frenchie posted the actual name of the group?

I wanted it to be set up so that it could be seen by the general public (like Radio 3's) but don't seem to be able to achieve this. But it is necessary to first have Facebook account to be able to read and post comments.

I exert no pressure on anyone to do this, though I suppose if there is safety in numbers, there are probably enough people registered with Facebook to cover that.

Very pleased with how this is progressing! It was always my intention that FoR3 should not have a dominating, campaigning profile here but that it should be a forum for listeners. So it's good to have the opportunity to take the lid off what been going on (which, I think is probably known as 'a teaser').

Some interesting "friends" you have there, including one or two that one would not expect to see (e.g. current R3 presenters). I trust they appreciate the risk they run of allying themselves against the Wrecker!

I note that there are already effectively double the number of that other group whose purported aim is to "Rescue Radio 3", despite their founder's aim for 30,000 (sic) friends.

I want the 'banner' legend to make it quite clear that we are not 'purely' a Radio 3 'fan club' - which in its most fundamental, supportive sense, we are.

Name dropping: the first time I (and David Samuels) met the controller and he demonstrated to us how privileged two listeners were to have gained access to such an important person, he went over to his computer and reported 45 emails had arrived (which would, of course, be dealt with by his secretary). But I reckon 325 emails referencing Facebook in two days is quite a good start. And there will be more.[Vacancy for secretary available! )

Quite like Classic FM - I didn't know they added such things (I can't see anything), but there's no such thing as a free lunch!

I know. It's very embarrassing. It was set up for me and I don't think it can be changed into a group (must investigate). With one short of 200 we might not get them all back if a different page is set up :-(

I don't think you can change a personal page into a group page, but you can create a separate band/business/group page. You have to have a personal page first before you can make any of these other types of pages.

I am slightly apprehensive as to where I and probably a few other members who feel no need or wish to join Facebook, even for the benefit of Radio 3 or this Forum, stand from now on. If referring to the postings on Facebook becomes prevalent throughout the Forum, I shall probably feel like a stranger in my own house. Or am I fussing about nothing? How does this work in relation to the Forum?
