Perhaps you'd like to have a shot at an answer to the questions in my previous post?It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Some years ago a cousin's daughter's father in law put him on Facebook and even I, no connection, got rubbish through that link.
Scary stuff.

The main idea is to reach an audience (the Facebook crowd) whom we don't reach at present. So I'm not urging anyone to open an account if they don't already have one. I abominate the idea but have been landed with it. It will, potentially, be a way of getting the FoR3 arguments beyond this forum and beyond our own website. And yes, I think there is a sense in which Radio 3 needs to be 'rescued' regardless of the fact that there are those who still, predominantly, enjoy the output.
I believe it's going in the wrong direction if it aims to become an upmarket (hence 'distinctive') - and more expensive - version of Classic FM, targeting 'the broader public' without the seriousness, specialist expertise and challenge that used to be the educative rationale of Radio 3.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

As you were! I was conned into taking on what I didn't want to do - thrown back in the face of AN Other to do what he likes with.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Anna
When R3 started their FaceBook page it was possible to read it without signing up. When they changed that I did sign up but was wary about the privacy issue (and reports of spam) so I joined using my grandmother's name and set up a Yahoo email account in her name. I think I posted about half a dozen messages but then, when I tried to login, I was asked for my phone number which I was reluctant to give.
Seeing this thread I decided to login but received the message that my account was disabled because I was using a fake identity. How do they know I am not my grandmother!! So, although I would like to join and Rescue R3 singlehandedly, I'm not happy about signing up. Obviously I appreciate social networking sites not wanting to have people pretending to be who they are to weed out the perverts but I do find FB rather creepy.
