One would like to give Entwistle full credit for spotting the square peg. But we'll know when we learn who he's appointing as boss of BBC Radio in Davie's stead.

Let's not forget that - incredibly - Davie was on the shortlist for DG, after four years experience in broadcasting! NB Davie got a plum promotion, C. Thomson 'left the BBC'.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

why the incredulity - the BBC is no longer Reithian but has probably gone too far down the commercial marketing line to ever recover - for those who believe that this is the only model for TV + Radio (just look at the educational basis of Faux news) then an erstwhile marketer of junk food is the ideal candidate, as in such a vision listeners + viewers are only important as fodder for adverts.
