It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

f f ,
Was this Mozzie poll timed to peak with the day of the Oldham East and Saddleworth by election ?
Good thinking, whatever ...

Do you think the same 'constituency' is waiting with baited breath for both results? It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

No doubt.
I only know one voter up on the moor and he was " asked to leave " the Labour Party ( for being a Millwall fan, probably )
But I bet he'll be equally interested in the final result at this place.
I wonder what the final turnout will be ?

PS
My new image does NOT mean I am in anway affiliated to the 'Push Me Pull You' coalition.
In fact I rather hope they get the spanking they deserve.

ff,
Can't you distribute some leaflets to raise awareness ?
I think the poll is a jolly good exercise.

I’d say the trailers were much more assertive than ‘regularly repeated smooth references’. My impression was that the aim of those trailers was to promote unfamiliar content in the packaging that resembled the new listeners’ familiar territory (adverts, jingle etc). If this makes sense.

I am surprised to see so few people have voted. Couldn’t you post Notice on all boards just in case some people may be going straight to Classical Forum’?Last edited by doversoul1; 13-01-11, 16:18.

There were trailers for individual programmes. And there was genius-jingle that appeared randomly and suddenly, like someone jumping out from a doorway - 'The genius of Mozart': for which I noticed they had chosen unfamiliar voices, one a male voice with a distinctly estuary undertone - I'm sure this was part of the, er, branding exercise. 'We're all in this together'...?
I am left with a feeling of: "What exactly was the point?" The station can say it broadcast every note, but nobody has listened to it all unless they recorded it - perhaps some have. Something a bit trainspotterish about the whole thing.
Actually, I recorded the WHOLE of the Beethoven experience with the help of a weeks holiday, an alarm clock and my mini-disc player that can record for up to 5 hours at a time! I've listened to a fair bit of it and will listen to the rest one day. The discs are now in a shoe box with a copy of that weeks Radio Times.
I didn't feel the need to duplicate the experience for the other marathons.

I see in RW's monthly 'message from the orchestra pit' that there has been an 'overwhelming positive response'. Who from, I wonder? This poll seems to be fairly representative maybe although I am no statistician. Perhaps the 'positive response' came during internal meetings at R3...."Jolly Gosh, Roger....what a spiffing wheeze...12 days of Mozart'.
It could have been so much better as per many of the suggestions in this thread.

I know it probably suits your argument to suggest that RW lives in a bubble where the only feedback he receives is from sycophantic lackeys, but I think that's a pretty lazy supposition.Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it.

1. It quite possibly is, literally, true. There has been huge publicity for the event and if it's been successful in attracting new listeners, the likelihood is that they would write in and say how much they'd enjoyed it, rather than, Your station is a load of poo and I shan't tune in again. Such listeners would just drift away, uninterested. So this could be a measure of how many new listeners there have been.
2. 'Overwhelmingly positive' is a favoured expression which is hard to quantify, but it is used a great deal by the BBC in publicity material. If one ever heard the opposite about anything, one would have more of a yardstick by which to measure. I think we have to try to take all evidence into consideration, including comments and polls all over the internet. It stretches belief that small marauding bands following particular agendas (in this case pro or anti) spend all their time cruising the internet splashing their unrepresentative views around and trying to outdo the opposition. By that standard, it's clear that there has been a significant vote of dissent, whatever the official postbag indicates.
3. For some of us, this isn't a matter of democracy and the popular vote: it's about principles and what best serves the music. It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
