Andrew's main headache was getting rid of new stuff that we didn't want, mainly the blog (we have a separate one for the FoR3 site and no one posts much on it) and the 'activity stream'. If you go on to any Profile Page, your own or someone else's, you do indeed find a stream of activities, the profiled person and - I think - that of any 'friends' that they have.
I don't think that adds much as if you want to find someone's recent posts you can just click on their name beside a post and get a menu where you can View Forum Posts. Or click the link on their profile page.
On the whole, I think we prefer thinks to be less intrusive rather than more. But the bits and bobs seem to have been added on all over the place.
Frances - I haven't found any slowing down of page loading - and you presumably have images switched off, which I don't.It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

- the slowing down is only if I load a page via the topic heading - if I use "what's new" I get instant access
agree with your decision to turn off all the 'intrusive' parts, most of which are easily turned into yet more tracking mechanism (I presume for other sites which use the same code not this this site)

Frances:
I'm currently logged on under Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) using Firefox 13.0.1 with both Java and images disabled, and have not yet reproduced your problem. About the time you reported the problem, I too noticed a certain slowness of loading, and have noticed it before periodically. There might be a problem on the server / heavy use by another website on it. I'm afraid that sort of thing is out of my scope, but it's worth keeping an eye on and reporting to ff.

The slowness is always in loading the last part of the page (often just the trailer) - I wonder if it is attempting to update databases with eg last viewed page - sometimes I have to force a stop in loading to release the browser to do something more productive

No opportunity to record the fact that they may not have actually been trying.
