    Thank you.

I think it is a question of how confident you are about what you are posting. When you know that you know what you are talking about, the response or the lack of it doesn’t bother you too much but when you are tentatively putting a feeler out, things feel quite differently.

I simply assumed nobody else listened to the Mark Elder concert which I praised - not fulsomely at all, but in the spirit of someone finding something GOOD to say about a Radio 3 programme. Without the seasoning of praise, criticism is a very dull dish.

Agreed. I suppose the number of people logging in here over a few days is still relatively small but the more variety of comment - especially appreciation - the more people are likely to register and join us. Unrelieved criticism is a bit off-putting.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

The thing is, if you don't hear a programme it's not always easy to find something to say about it. That's of course why the more "general" discussions are easier to drop into and comment on.

I'm not generally backward at coming forward, I don't think, but I must say that sometimes I've thought - "I'll say how good I thought XXX was" but then later on, when at the computer, I've reconsidered along the lines of "Oh well, it's just my opinion anyway which isn't important to anyone else so I'll not jam up the screen with yet another thread."

I think the only way to obtain regular comment on the various programmes/works would be to pick out a couple/few each day, give them a thread each, and then specifically ask for comments. Whether that would be either useful or wanted is another matter...

salymap for "Meccano" sets as she had a cousin who did the illustrations and Euda as she was 'Shopenhauer' over on BBC3 boards.

I really take caution with my daughter about texting, friending, and sorting through the enormous body of gadgets that is available; attempting to teach her to not have emotional drainage or highs of acceptance through such formats. To be with people in person will give her and fullfill her, human needs of interaction. I also stress with her that Google and the likes is a year younger than herself and that the gadget she welds in her hand is more than any James Bond gadget I had hoped to have in my lifetime.

What I dislike about texting is that it is silent and I can not HEAR what is happening as in a phone call. I like to be aware of her connections. She is awesome as we navigate this and I as well tell her this is very new for me as well. And for all of us. And yes, three times this past 10-12 months I have gathered all her gadgets and placed them away for misuse.

OTOH, a bit of flagging up in advance of programmes that look a bit interesting perhaps encourages people who have found them interesting (or not) to comment.

I'm a bit backward at coming forward re performances on R3, thinking to myself 'what do I know, others know better' and possibly being asked to justify my enthusiasm in technical terms rather than just me saying 'I thought it was brilliant' which is why I tend to just stick to the general discussion threads. I just don't feel I am knowledgeable enough and what I say wouldn't carry much weight (unlike people like IGI or wilf - if he were here)

                    Anna, DT,

Just to say I am a bit overwhelmed by FoR3 forum with regard to the number of threads/postings, often there are more than 50 members on line at one time. I see thread titles, many that would interest me but I just haven't got the time to check many of them out.

I've fallen so far behind I can't catch up. I expect the scale of things was similar at BBCR3MB but I rarely visited there because of the arguments/techiness/nuisance there. R3ok on the other hand is now too quiet and there's rarely a thread I will post on except the chatty ones.

Me too, John . I tend to use the What's New? view and pop in when I see something interesting. But my main area of interest is Arts & Ideas so I read most of the threads there.

We are, perhaps, generating more threads too in order to draw attention to programmes, either forthcoming or still available on Listen Again. I imagine people simply disregard them if the subject doesn't interest them. It is rather like the BBC boards in that like-minded people tend to cluster together: CD Review, Building a Library, Platform 3 and, of course Jazz and World.
