    R3 New (Beta) Homepage

R3 is calling for feedback on its proposed new Homepage.

Click the Feedback button on the righthand side of the Beta version to complete a survey and for other ways to comment,

or post your comments on the R3 blog.

[General comments for discussion purposes can also be posted here - I know what I think ...]
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Tend to agree. I thought the last change was an improvement - I like the current one.

I was just getting used to it
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
      Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Moved to Announcements so that it doesn't get lost among the sundry ramblings.

I found questions like these in the survey a bit puzzling.
          • Things you can do on it,
          • Range of content available on the site,
          • This website inspired me to do something new,

Are we supposed to ‘do things’ on the site other than finding out what will be / is being broadcast (and listen again from there)?

This is the age of computer games, after all... (Where are the brainteasers and Name That Instrument quizzes?) I suppose they would mean can you find programme information (present, future, archive) and background info. I didn't think much of the prominent links to Facebook, Twitter and How To Buy Tickets for BBC Events as being high priority: others might . I've left (a) comment(s) on the blog, but I may do the survey if you have the opportunity to answer the questions in your own way [not just Yes/No/Don't Know on a scale of 1-10].

This is the problem with BBC 'research': they try to template everything, which makes it very easy for them to process the answers.

It would be good if people looked thoroughly at the content available. I often find that what I want to know isn't there (playlists in advance, even a Drama on 3 cast list) and plenty of stuff I don't need. What's the point of the Wikipedia information (correct and incorrect) when we can get that anyway?

Done the survey and left this feedback: Just as irritating and unhelpful as before - nice new typeface, though.

Question 2: Please indicate where you are right now.

It seems the BBC are employing Americans to carry out their survey.

I've done the survey - fairly useless, standard survey questions that I've answered on several previous occasions.

It was 56% completed before the first question about the Beta was asked.

As suspected, it wasn't about Radio 3's homepage but the entire Beta site, so no questions of special relevance. The only opportunity to say anything useful was the final question (What do you dislike about the Beta version?) - not exactly the moment to write a structured, detailed reply.

There is the opportunity to email them and/or tweet on Twitter which may give the opportunity for more specific feedback. The survey as others have pointed out asks the usual generic, mind numbing rubbish. Does anyone at the BBC ever use this feedback?

Do they mean geographically, or locations like 'on the settee', 'in bed', 'on the loo', 'on the 38 bus'?

Just looked at it - ghastly - maroon background cluttered with spirograph patterns. Layout is a total mess.

The 'related content' (which seems pretty mainstream, not 'related', which implies stuff not terribly important) links are hidden unless you scroll down the page - a big no-no (it's OK to scroll down to view a list - eg the daily schedule - where it's obvious it continues past the bottom of the screen, but not for different content the presence of which is not obvious).

Why have you made these changes?
As announced in January 2011, BBC Online is being redefined into one cohesive service, split by ten distinct products, delivered across four screens. The Radio and Music Product is one of these ten products.

where's the smiley when you need it?

I think the key to the changes is here -

available on all mobile, tablets, desktop computers, digital radio and digital TV

Apparently more people will be accessing the internet from mobile phones than laptop/desktop computers.

What does this actually mean? And does the fact that people are accessing the site from whatever the new (or not so new) gadget they use has to do with the content, especially, when it comes to the information we need on the R3 site? Or Radio3 being what it is/should be means nothing to the BBC now? I hardly look at other station sites. Are they treated as indifferently as R3 is?

                            Hummm

I rarely use the R3 website apart from trying to find out what something I heard was etc

Where is the "Unpopular Programmes" tab (over to you Callum) ???
and since the BBC seems happy now to advertise a commercial company on the site (Facebook) maybe we could have some other adverts from our friends !
So why not a .......... Cafe Oto tab ? (they seem to have done more for some musics than the BBC)
or even my favourite fishmongers http://www.arbroathsmokiesonline.co.uk/

That it's no use saying that different stations could (should?) have different approaches, dependent upon content - rather than the assumption that there's only one kind of listener.

I think it's more to do with the BBC projection a 'brand' image.
