    off Bach

neither here nor there, but it was sm-p, and I reckon it was mahler, not bach ..........

i only remember because my mum and i were laughing about the likeliehood of anyone ever saying 'scribbling the *rse off durer' as an effective way of expressing 'the most ACUTE appreciation EVER' of 16th c complex drawing skill. likewise, i suspect mahler has lots of key symbols, and shades of emotion, rather than benefiting from being limited to description containing explicit sexual innuendo. sm-p's tweet unfortunately explained nothing about mahler, whilst also misrepresenting the author. ultimately, sm-p's probably 'just obeying producers' - hasn't actually given genuinely witty text, or tweets nearly enough thought? imv counter productive as far as the beeb's intent: pretending that text & tweet speak's 'new' and 'modern', and essential to all generations of listeners, particularly where it's against their will..... which imv makes r3 seem draconian, rigid, and 'old fashioned' in the worst possible sense ironically. combined, it's a double 'home goal' for r3, plus the current (non) style will rapidly date!

french frank, surely every generation are potential 'air heads'? in that they usually possess their own 'light headed' encoded shorthand, as a part of their generational identity. half the fun of the arts is in deciphering what artists may have originally meant in their specific era, and what we think of it in retrospect.

apparently, durer's global hit, 'miffed & math' has been trending for 500 yrs.... (soz)

I think it's true now. But wanting to establish a generational identity nevertheless strikes me as - sniff - a bit immature. Okay when you actually are a teenager, but pretending you're a teenager when you're 35 or 40 is daft
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Depends which end you're at, I suppose, OG. You're mature rather than immature!

she could have tweeted 'i was singing the arms off mahler' instead!

(perhaps the other one sounded better when she said it outloud? or maybe actually mr wrong tweets on her behalf, has a dodgey idea of what is 'youthful', and 'spirited' .......rather than witless smutty-uncle-talk. the sort most people avoid (if they have the option)....including older people joshing online.

when you actually are a teenager, ...moody, hormonal, spotty and reactionary!

              but pretending you're a teenager when you're 35 or 40 is daft

it's a fantasy pretense, that earns 'professional' respect, and a career.

but the pretense tends to send people a bit loopy as a rule......... sort of in two minds, or three, or five. before you know it, you're tweeting offensive gibberish, and living at your mum's.

True, and 'respect' (really! ) to those who resistJim was a one-off - he could get away with anything.

does anyone watch '2012'? where's caliban?

it was 'meltdown week' for the character called siobhan sharp, on beeb tv satire '2012' ... a good example of why in current times, lots of people have be 'more like jimmy saville' in order to keep their careers in tact!

this week's 'modes of expression' included (umpteen) 'totally's - 'you the dude' - 'here's the thing', - 'sooooooooo cool', and some really cringey 'rap dancing + gestures' which made for pretty horrific (but funny) viewing. but jimmy saville (if he was here), would think siobhan sharp 'top notch', and perhaps inhale deeply on his (unlit) cigar! whereas i believe caliban's favourite '2012' character, sue, (played by olyvia colman), has long since resigned from her post, in a huff. presumably because she got no recognition for being helpful, intuitive etc and expressed herself authenticly. yet ironically sue might have genuinely helped 'prepare for the olympics' in some small way,..... unlike the rest!

if anything, '2012' demonstrates that what was once an oddity, or a 'one off' restricted to jimmy saville, is currently more of a norm, especially in some professions! the characters who really are younger than siobhan sharp, don't actually use half as many cod 'youthisms' ...but 'afterall' siobhan does have her own marketing company, called 'perfect curve' so is 'allowed' more 'youth'.....

About to watch his recording of '2012' to end the weekend!
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
