Would members please note under the House Rules: "Do not use offensive language." Some words may be common features of your sociolect: they may nevertheless be regarded as offensive by others.

Perhaps the guiding principle should be: Would you hear Sara Mohr-Pietsch use such language on the Breakfast Show?

Incidentally, I was reading an American forum a couple of days ago and a British poster had protested that his comment: "What the *** was that about?" had been edited with the insertion of asterisks. Was the word H-E-L-L, he asked, not acceptable to Americans? [It reminds me rather of buzzer game in I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.]

I thought that anecdote was funny. I watched a programme on BBC2 last night, there were more rudelets in that than in a month of Sundays on this MB. Is the problem so widespread that the Robots have to be called in to monitor?
