    House Rules: modes of expression

Would members please note under the House Rules: "Do not use offensive language." Some words may be common features of your sociolect: they may nevertheless be regarded as offensive by others.

Perhaps the guiding principle should be: Would you hear Sara Mohr-Pietsch use such language on the Breakfast Show?

If complaints are made, your post may be edited without notice.

Incidentally, I was reading an American forum a couple of days ago and a British poster had protested that his comment: "What the *** was that about?" had been edited with the insertion of asterisks. Was the word H-E-L-L, he asked, not acceptable to Americans? [It reminds me rather of buzzer game in I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.]
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Personally, I don't give a shed about rude words
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Not to mention kipper. Or was that Petroc?

Has someone been very naughty, to elicit the above reminder?

Oh dear! To make sure we are not trangressing we will now have to listen to SM-P to check our vocabulary.

The trouble is that if SM-P did use such language on the Breakfast "show", it'd be an improvement!

Me too, if it was the reference to Jagger's micturative arrangements (no pun intended).

Well, I saw nothing to object to in your post because p*** isn't a swear word is it? I haven't noticed anyone effing and blinding either but someone must be on the naughty step.

Is this a ploy to get us to read EVERYTHING that has been posted ?

What if the 'rudelet' was contained in a direct quotation by a third party and was a necessary part thereof?

I'm getting a robot in to cope: it won't understand niceties ...

                          Coral Browne, fr'instance?

You should plead the 'fair dealing' defence relating to journalistic, literary, dramatic, musical or artistic activities - with an additional ratio decidendi relating to the wonderfully humouristic

I thought that anecdote was funny. I watched a programme on BBC2 last night, there were more rudelets in that than in a month of Sundays on this MB. Is the problem so widespread that the Robots have to be called in to monitor?
