    Not me guv (this time)

There was a serious outage this evening which was our server going down - first time there's been such an emergency in the seven years we've been with them.

Mark thought it was me fiddling about trying to get the smileys back (they're still absent, most of them) but I don't think I could have caused machines to destruct over in Florida(?). And I admit, the thought crossed my mind: oh, dear, I wonder what Mark ...

Third strike and we'll be out, so fingers crossed for tomorrow.

(Mark is now saying he didn't really think it was me ... :)

    Now, those smileys ...
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Doubly unfortunate (nice word for it) since I misstepped so badly last night.

Things may be a little slow for the next hour or two while our host's database administrators check the MySQL tables of all customers affected.

Then - at a time to be agreed mutually, when no-one but TTN listeners are around - I think I should run some table integrity checks local to us - just in case.

    Stop Press

    Our hosts have just said:

The check has finished and didn't find anything nasty.
The total downtime was 73 minutes.
The replacement system should be a little faster than the old one too.
