It does seem to provide a certain amount of post-posting concern so I'm asking again whether there is anyone who finds this facility useful? If not, I shall disable it (this does not automatically delete VMs from the database, but the messages are no longer visible and no new messages can be posted).

Please object NOW if you want VMs to continue.
did we reach a conclusion on this? - I get the feeling the view of the "body" is that they are disabled and deleted.

Thank you for reminding me - I'd forgotten all about it.

Yes, I think objections have had long enough to be voiced. I propose to disable the facility which means all messages will disappear but they will remain in the database; otherwise they all have to be deleted individually, user by user (I think) - which would mean checking each account to see if there were any (in most cases there wouldn't be) and then deleting all those sent by that user. I will do that for any user who specifically asks me to delete theirs en masse (though I'm sure they've always been deletable singly).

They automatically go from the database when an account is deleted.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
