    Symbol

What is the significance of the symbol - like a little padlock? - which is placed against certain threads, eg the Maria Malibran thread in Performance?

I think it indicates that it's been closed - probably as a result of somebody breaking the rules, e.g. by posting personal insults.

      Not always, it doesn't!!!

If the Maria Malibran discussion is closed, it's a scandal and should be rectified at once.

      'Scuse me

False alarm, I think. The thread was not closed. I thought I might have closed it in error but I had gone first to look at the Announcements board to see what was going on

I thought we were talking about that little blue tag thing over to the right, which if you hover over it highlights certain "tag" words from the text

Ah, yes. Well, that is a 'tag'. Anyone (I think) can 'tag' a thread with the key names or subjects so that that it shows quickly if anyone is googling for those subjects. If you hover over it, you can see what Syd has tagged it as (Bach, female singers, Maria Malibran, slavery).

Second thought: I think that's what tags are for: I never use them.

              Thank you, ff.
I did not know about tags, hence the innocent question.

It looked like a padlock when I checked after reading Message #1 - there's currently a padlock tagging a closed thread devoted to Reiner Torheit. Sorry to add to any confusion!

That is a different symbol. The one Patrick meant was the blue 'luggage label' to the right of the thread title. The locked one was about RT, not started by him.
