    Rearrangement of boards

    Forthcoming changes are:

The two Proms boards will be moved back into Classical Forum once the Proms finish. Given that the concert titles are so clearly marked and can be easily identified, I'll probably merge the two boards.

The Discovering Music subforum will, sadly, be discontinued, and the threads will be merged into Talking About Music. I'll keep my eye open for what the new-style interval talks by Stephen Johnson are like to see where they can best be discussed. At only 20 minutes per week (every week?) they probably won't merit their own board.

A second request has been made for a separate Opera board. I think it's a good idea and will see where it's best placed - maybe as a subforum of Performance.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Thank you for all the work involved in this :) Could the putative Opera board also perhaps cover Ballet, Dance, and other musically-related things that happen in theatres? They're all in search of a deserving home :)

Yes, like the Opera board idea.

Would there be some merit in keeping the Proms board alive as a sub-board? Although this year's season may be coming to an end, the Comptroller himself mentions in his little-visited blog that there are "only ten months" to the opening of the next... and as usual there's great speculation as to what delights or disappointments it may hold? Indeed that speculation has already begun in earnest amid the message-making here ;)

Not that I suppose the Great Bugaboo takes the slightest notice ;)

          Agreed! More easily avoided!!

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

            Yes, I do!!!

Yes, the Proms board would still be very much alive, but as a single board rather than having a separate 'Proms Forum' which was a promotion during the season. Quite what will be boards and what sub-forums (or 'child-boards') I haven't worked out. The idea is to keep the structure fairly simple.

Not sure about widening the Opera board. We don't get much on ballet or music theatre but they can be discussed on the Performance board anyway. And, anyway, Caliban might be interested in ballet and then would have to venture into the opera board - I don't want him complaining!

I might leave this for a fortnight until immediate comments on the Proms and Listen Again are finished.

Memories of Flanders and Swan - on yards and yards of recording tape! Yes I think I'll avoid it too!

Aha, I was referring to a Great Bugaboo whose office peers out at Portland Place London W1, in fact :) I fear he has but scant regard for the opinions of those crouched around their radiograms in the living-rooms of Albion. For him, radio is a decidely one-sided medium - They Who Know pump it out, and We The Great Unwashed absorb it.
