How do you propose to discover where the new forum is when this forum disappears?
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

And don't panic but the forum may have to close while a new back-up is made. Discussions going on at the moment.

In case it helps, I visit a couple of other forums. One is powered by XenForo:https://xenforo.com/solutions/#xf and the other by phpBB:https://www.phpbb.com

I'm afraid I have no experience of setting up a forum with either of these.

Thanks to everyone who's offered to contribute. Here's hoping there's something to contribute to

I think Andrew and Mark are planning the back-up over this weekend (ie tomorrow I suppose). I'll try to remember to post a message on the CLOSED SHOP sign. We'll reopen when the back-up has finished.

I've just updated the CLOSED SHOP message for tomorrow (in an attempt to get in the swing of things again). We're hoping to do the backup tomorrow, probably late evening.

Many thanks, Andrew. That will safeguard the content up until then - after that stuff may be lost. If it were a film a huge injection of cash would come in at the last moment and save FQ!

                    Willing to contribute financially, too.

It is really encouraging to see so many members prepared to help financially (as ff knows I would too). A new category of membership (Site supporter) could perhaps be introduced, though that might be seen as divisive; but who would be responsible for looking after the finances/bank account? That's a huge responsibility.

Let's hope the team find an appropriate alternative for us.

                        Well said!

Consider Google Groups. It's free I think, it can be moderated, it has search and image post, you can delete posts but not edit, you get used to the UI fairly quickly. I am a member of a private group called Symphonyshare -- it seems fine.

Like many others, I'm very happy to contribute financially - but don't have the expertise to help technically I'm afraid.

Good luck with the backing up and relaunch. Like others I don't want to have much [anything] to do with Facebook, but if that's going to be the noticeboard for where the migrated forum is to be, then maybe we could have a link here before things disappear.

Best wishes to all. Hopefully enough of us will keep in touch that it'll be possible to regroup again in the not too distant future, and spread the word about new locations.

I have used GoDaddy - and maybe even have an account there.

Also - as with others - will contribute if it helps.

The link to the Facebook noticeboard has been given out twice in the thread already. It is https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100094434990528 and you need to bookmark it. I don't think you have to sign up to FB in order to see it.
