We will be carrying out a second precautionary backup at 9pm this evening. The forum will be unavailable for the duration, which shouldn't be more than half an hour.

On the question of FB Groups, I have joined a few, over the past couple of years and, so far, have not suffered any unfortunate experiences as a result. Maybe it's just that I join the 'wrong' type of groups, where contributors are generally civil and moderation is well managed.
And thanks to Andrew and Mark from me, too.

I've had similar experience with FB groups.

So more time in hospital soon, but will continue following the Forum with my usual enthusiasm and hope that a viable alternative can be found for us all. I'd like to contribute, too, if necessary.
All good wishes for a speedy recovery. Hope you'll be able to take some music with you!

                Good morning, all!

The latest on the transfer is that we feel, cautiously, that matters are proceeding smoothly. There may be a delay at first when we've decided on our destination (we have) - our registered domain name has to be redirected before for3.org addresses will work. There may/will also be a slight delay getting the forum itself up and running, but we have opted for a software upgrade (another task to be completed) but that looks to be okay … We will keep in touch with you somehow.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

That’s truly excellent news. Congratulations to all concerned for the considerable work so far.

Sounds like good progress. Thank you.

Are you intending that "somehow" the same URLs will work, and be dynamically translated? I'm not sure whether such a thing is possible.

I often get here just by searching for "for3 forum". Hopefully we'll all figure it out when the transition happens.

                        Andrew - Technical engineer
                        Mark - Technical support
                        Me - Customer services

Dave2002 - Mark owns the domain name for3.org. If I understand, the Domain Name System (DNS) currently points the name to FutureQuest but it can be redirected elsewhere. Once that happens, the simple form should route, I imagine, to the FoR3 website where there will (eventually) be a forum link. Not sure, but forms like for3.org/forums/forum.php (the forum homepage) may need to be adjusted by Mark.

It's also possible that the for3.org email addresses may need to be adjusted.

NB Customer services don't always know what they're talking about.

I don’t know enough about IT to understand the issues here, although I have had to go through them at my workplace. A rotten gallbladder I can relate to; IT deaths and transfigurations continue to evade the comprehension of my cerebral cortex. However I add my thanks to all involved. I am always afraid that when I sign in that it may be the last time that I inflict my opinions on the lot of you

Not if we can help it! Where would the forum be without you lot?

I do remember when the BBC closed its messageboard we all came together, virtually, and sang either Lasst uns mit geschlungen Händen (probably my suggestion ) or Auld Lang Syne. That was back in 2010 and here we are, many of us, still here.
