I don't want it to . I want a bit more spare time!

Meanwhile, pass the word round that there is a new messageboard down at the bottom of the page. It would be handy if people posted all their queries about how to do things on this forum on that board so that they can be picked up more easily (even if they've been asked somewhere else - assuming no one has come up with an answer).
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

RE Message #72: Johnb, after some searching, your directions for changing the number of posts per page worked perfectly. I can now view forty posts per page. Also, I removed avatars and signatures in my General Settings since, for me, they take up space unnecessarily. Thanks, johnb, for the tip!

How did you set the changes to stay changed? I managed to change in much the same way as you did and it worked while I was logged in. However, when I went back later (having logged out after making the changes), it was all back to how it had been before. I pressed both ‘save the changes’ and ‘reset’. What did I miss?

Ah, does it work only when viewing while logged in?

          estelle,

I'm very happy to help when I can.

          doversoul,

Did you click on 'Save the changes', at the bottom of the page?

(I've just logged out and then logged back in and the settings have remained.)

I think your afterthought is correct.

I agree, though I can understand why you don't want it. This is the first time I've been in favour of a dictatorshop. A duck-billed platypus is an animal designed by a committee.

Can we have a Style Council?

I need to get a dictator. Can you recommend a good supplier?

A duck-billed platypus is an animal designed by a committee? Surely not, its very effective at doing what it needs to do. Perhaps it is more a product of evolution from an isolated gene pool in a stable, but harsh, environment over an unusually long time period. When you isolate a relatively small genetic community over a relatively long period, the more unusual offshoots get a bigger chance than usual. Viz. the duck-billed platypus! Also the kangaroo, the koala bear, the star-nosed mole, the world's largest earthworm ... Oz has some amazing stuff. And New Zealand too. The flightless parrot, the kiwi, the moa ...

I hope I've remembered that lot correctly, but no doubt I'll hear if I havent.

I'm not certain about the earthworm, but I think its in Oz ...

                      Post 1 french frank

ff, my apologies, I got so carried away by two of my enthusiasms - obscure zoology, and Australia - that I've only just realised my last post was wildly off topic. Also I seem to have killed the thread.

Please come back on and steer the discussion back to relevance.

I promise, not another whisper about star-nosed moles.

No problem. The forum/thread remains top of the list on the homepage and the subject is clearly flagged up.

But to recap: we have, latest count, I think, sixteen offers to help in some capacity with forum duties. No binding commitments at all on roles or time.

Anyone else who wants to offer their services, please PM me or post here.

                          Hi, ff

Just joined, but I'd be happy to help out with moderation duties, if required.

Let me know if you need any.

                          Thanks,
