When I were a kid they were called ‘power cuts’. It is this century that ‘outage’ has been (un)popularised! When did you first start using it ff?

Entirely accurately Victorian. I was going to suggest 19th c., but then I thought: "Only a pedant …"
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Not even 20th century, which, since the cipher/صفر /cypher (0) was not in use at the time the A.D. system was introduced, started on January 1st, 1901.

Difficult one that, but I don't think so because the suffix out- doesn't necessarily have an opposite in-. Outdo doesn't give indo, for example. Outlast, inlast. Mmm, but outlaw has the opposite inlaw …
