Apparently, it's still sending the "first" email - Alpie holds the record, having received four!

Have we done enough to be inside the law?

So far there have been 29 rejected /bounced returns, which I imagine is where people have changed their email addresses and not updated them in their settings.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

here too - good to see google analytics ditched - this 'free' analysis tool is a built in tracker device to too many pages the use of which is probably not explicitly agreed to by many as its use is hidden in the small print - has been blocked on my system for some time but all too easy to fall foul of it - my own suggestion is that if Trump wants to push the world down the protectionist route then the US based advertising companies should be the prime target by the Europeans however painful to the Irish.

(Actually - a lot easier to write! It's now a couple of months short of eight years since I was last in Wales. )

Why do you want it? You're already registered.

If you were to register for a second account (not allowed), you just log off; and when you next try to log in you're offered Sign In or Register, as all the cookies have been cleared and the software doesn't know whether you're already registered or wanting to register.

But you don't need to do anything.

Oh, well. You aren't culled or you wouldn't be here. Links to our Privacy Statement and Terms of Service are at the foot of the page. I think that's all we need to say

Not so sure about this - it's difficult to get rid of it:

I have received the email with the comment re accessing the privacy statement via the contacts link at the bottom of each page.

I think, broadly speaking, the R3 forum is within the law, though the GDPR "law" itself is ..... (Quote from Dickens ..)

Having seen some of the details from some more commercial organisations, I think that the intention of the GDPR is to stop misuse of data - well we all thought that, didn't we? Given that enforcement is often very weak, allbeit non-existent, it may be a pointless exercise. The apparently draconian penalties for flouting the "new" rules are presumably meant as a deterrent, but may in practice turn out to be as ineffective as many other enforcement measures.

Possibly there was always some sharing of data, and most of us did not worry about it, and indeed we may have welcomed it without thinking. If I ordered something from a shop with a specified delivery date, the shop may eventually have decided that the only way to satisfy that order was to contact its supplier, and ask for a direct delivery. If the intermediary also was unable to satisfy the order, a further decision might have been made to contact the manufacturer, and arrange for a direct delivery. The delivery firm would then need the details of the purchaser's name, address etc., and in turn might have contracted out parts of the transportation to different companies. Thus one "simple" order could easily have required some details of the purchaser being sent to several different organisations. Nobody really worried about it - or at least I certainly didn't. This probably has been going on for years. We all more or less "trusted" that things would work, and no major issues would arise.

The internet has made some things more obvious, and some things better, and some things a lot worse. Nowadays supply chains can be much faster because of electronic interactions. There is also the possibility of data being distributed widely, and across different jurisdictions, and across different countries. This was unlikely with older paper based systems. The newer systems also introduce the possibility of personal data being sold on, and opportunities for various kinds of malfeasance and fraud, both from people and organisations within one country, and also worldwide. Additionally, since payment is now often done electronically, there are other major potential problems, though financial transactions are not the only areas of concern.

Traceability is also a major issue, as when things go wrong, rectification might be very hard - particularly if due to illegal activity.

One finds it hard to believe a person such as you could have got yourself in all this trouble in the first place....the world is coming to a rum end when such as ff even goes so far as even thinking of the possibility of having culled someone....
