I would very much appreciate my account being kept open. I enjoy reading the posts on this site and do so regularly. I read to learn and to experience various viewpoints on the subjects under discussion. I regret that I don't post myself, but I don't believe I am in the same league with those who contribute regularly. I do hope that you will not delete my account! Thank you!
I'm delighted to say that, simply by posting this, you've ensured that your membership will continue, Estelle.

It should be said that all accounts that it was proposed to close have now been closed.
Also, the closures refer to lack of activity - which means people not even having been logged in. Any of those affected who have been routinely reading posts on the forum will, of course, be able to continue to do so as that isn't restricted to registered members. It does mean they will need to register again - with the GDPR compliant new registration form - if they want permissions such as the use of Private Messaging; and the Contact Us button at the foot of each page is available if it poses difficulties.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
It would be useful for the Hosts if Forumistas would keep this Thread open for specific comments and queries about Forum GDPR, and post general comments on GDPR madness on Dave's useful Thread.

Might I say that I'm full of admiration for how seamlessly this has been managed - I'm sure a lot of thought has gone on to overcome the more baffling aspects of GDPR as it applies to smaller entities like the Forum, not to mention technical investigation, to achieve a proportionate solution. I suspect ferney, frenchie and Andrew Slater are the leading figures in all this who deserve a vote of thanks.

I'm not sure about leagues, Estelle. If there were I'd be constantly fighting relegation. I'm sure that any contributions would be very welcome.
Time moves on and what seemed important last year no longer is. I do remember that sometimes people have mentioned that it was good to look back to see what some of our no-longer-with-us members once posted. In the case of those who have died, I thought we no longer needed their email addresses but we could retain their accounts; so have created a new 'user group'. Consequently

Ah, so many names … some may have gone… Simon was often resigning and coming back. But it looks as if they have all departed …
You will find a certain amount by searching on 'arcades', and presumably 'Skelton' and 'Sorel'.

Sorry to see aCdJ on that list. Should there also be a policy on that - in one's profile? Memorial/ NoMemorial/ don't care

You're still in, marypats. You don't have to post - as long as you remain logged in when you come to read the posts (and do so at least once a year), your account will stay open.

Just as a rider to this: I was surprised that I didn't notice the account of 'arcades project', especially as it would have been near the top of the alphabetical list (and I checked through every name). However, searching my emails: on 30 July 2013, Simon requested that this account be closed.
He also asked if all his posts could be removed, but I didn't know how to do that. We afterwards introduced a new condition: 'By posting messages on this forum you are giving full permission to The Radio 3 Forum to publish them. This permission cannot be withdrawn in the event of your membership being terminated as this would affect the discussions of others.'

In addition to the Hosts mentioned in Cali's kind post, there has also been significant input from a certain Host with a legal background and access to "informal" legal suggestions specifically on this matter, which has been both useful and reassuring.
