For the moment I've just selected this comment to reply to

Actually, thanks for all the responses. I now have a possible solution to the sidebar prob. which I'll try out this morning.

Russ - thanks for drawing my attention to the Gilson blog.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I don't mind what colour it is if I can read it. Strange pink but much easier to read. I have never been able to access 'What's New' with whole print. I just get the top of each word but can usually [just] make it out. I thought it was my computer. Thanks for your efforts FF.

I can refine the colour, now I know how to do it, but if people want to fiddle around a bit, click on Customise My Profile. The item 'Inactive Module Background' is the relevant one, and should be pink now. Click on that, see what happens, change the colour, click the green Save button and you should get whatever you want. Or wait for me to alter it again!

Here's part of a screenshot of the forum frontpage showing the styles, colours and grading that are rendered in most browsers. (The screenshot is in png format to preserve the colours rendered in the browser, in this case Firefox4, but I've checked out a few others browsers, and they render similarly.)

If you're not seeing something like this, please indicate what browser you're using, and I'll try to check it out.

            Russ,

It looks like that to me OK (IE8).

Actually, that raises another point, FF - The white on pink of 'Today's Posts' etc is not very easy to read.

Perhaps, in this case, the text should be black and not white?

It's ok but I wish I knew why it was happening so that I could stop it. That auto save thing is still distracting me ever so often. I'd be glad if it didn't. Is there are option not to see it? What does it does it do anyway?
This is a bug which has been discussed and acknowledged more than once (back in the archives by now). The repeated text is a phantom and cannot be edited away - You just have to ignore it!

'Today's Posts' is the view for guests and members who aren't logged in. The same applies to the 'New Posts' &c links on the home page for logged in members. I can certainly change those to black. I think

Yes - I was reading it off Russ's link, but it's the same effect in both.

Ah! Thanks for letting me know, Don. I wonder why it's started doing this since Friday?

Okay. Let's think about this. I'm typing a reply here and waiting for the yellow Auto-Save message to appear. And there it is - Auto-Saved. Now, I'm going to close this window (well, I'll wait for Auto-Saved again).

                          A little later:

I closed down the browser completely, opened it again and returned to the forum and this thread, clicked on this message to start my reply again - and the message Restore Auto-Saved Message (I think that was it) appeared in the grey bar just below the editing pane. I did that and - message returned for me to carry on as before. Even hackneyvi's [ QUOTE ] which I had shortened a little, was restored as I left it.

All that said, I don't think I've often lost a half finished message ...

Dear ff, I didn't understand the purpose or usage of the AutoSave function. It's something, like the duplication of the end of lines, that's only started since Friday after I've been here for a couple of months.

If it has a use, I'm happy to ignore it!

The phantom text was thought to be something to do with one of the versions of Internet Explorer.

I think I've managed to tone down the colour of the Auto-Save thing and can make it a bit paler. That may not be quite so distracting (but as I'm mainly staring at my keyboard, I don't tend to see it ). Yes, Auto-Save was introduced with the software upgrade which Mark did a few days ago. I've just used it again - shutting down the browser, reopening, back to forum, back to this thread, Reply With Quote - and there's a message Restore Auto-Saved Content. Click on, message returns. So that's what it's for.

As far as I recall, there's no rhyme or reason as to when it comes and goes. I haven't seen it lately with my input. Could this be because I was eventually dragged into the current century and upgraded to IE8? (FF suggests it might be browser-related.)
