Before any disasters occur
, members should understand the vital difference between a Visitor Message and a Private Message. This should be obvious after the first Visitor Message has been posted on a member's profile page.
Visitor messages are that person's own forum, where friends can gather to chat among themselves, but please remember that all registered members can read them, so don't disclose incriminating or embarrassing information here!
You can have a private exchange with any member (as long as they haven't switched off the facility, indicating that they don't wish to be contacted): you can do this from that member's profile page via the Send Private Message link on the left, or from your own - if you can remember exactly how to spell the username - or by clicking on Private Messages at the top of the page, below What's New?.
In the very top line, right, between your name and My Profile, is Notifications. If there are any unread messages for you, this will be highlighted with a number alongside. Click on that menu to take you to your Inbox.
Private messages are just that. The All-Knowing Ones know a lot, but it doesn't include the content of your private messages.
