Improvements to website?

Ah. Letters in white. That’s much better. More like for this Forum. I always felt the header in black, bold letters was too…over-assertive (I couldn’t spot what it was until now). Incidentally, I wouldn’t call the colour brown. Whatever you call it, it looks good.

Morning ff, I don't quite understand the 'Useful Links' on the left of the first page. When I log on they appear momentarily, then the page spreads across and they go.

Should I click on them to keep them if I want to access anything? Colours look great now IMHO. bws

I thought, earlier on, there was a pale yellow block beneath the now dark chocolate stripe which made it look rather like an old school tie (possibly Merchant Taylor's?) But that seems to have gone so it's resembling Neapolitan Icecream at the moment .......

Well, I've done a mock-up of the whole header - but the red needs further adjustment, less red, more brown.

I quite like the Waitrose dark chocolate min. 72% cocoa contents look (much classier than Bourneville). Don't think I'd muddy the red with more brown. It all looks fine to me.

I like the white lettering on the brown heading, very clear (is brown, yet again, the new black?) If the red was darkened would it have the effect of looking rather dull I wonder? Admittedly I was a fan of the original red but the new look is beginning to look quite classy and sophisticated! Well done to ff for all her artistic flair.

Wouldn't Harrods Green look rather 'Gentlemans' Club' ? If you are looking at that end of the spectrum for an accent colour for chocolate then it would need to be of the Sea Green/Turquoise/Grey Blue end I think.

Brown-red is a good accent colour for brown, as is Rose Pink or a slightly pinky Lavender.

No, I did actually say upthread I realised the R3 boards were red and the implication was that in some way we were following that lead in our variation of it. What I meant was that I just prefer gentler on the eye, less hectoring, fresher colours at the other end of the spectrum.

But judging by above responses, I am way, way off the core feeling.

How about introducing a feature, common to other websites (e.g. Daily Telegraph), which enable the forum member to indicate whethet they "Like" or "dislike"a post?

I envisage several benefits:

• interest at seeing whose posts are "liked" by the membership;

• ability to give members an opportunity to express their opinion on a thread without having to post a comment (useful for those of us who have busy lives);

• curtailment of those inteminable threads where one knows the protagonists' positions from the outset;

• enable those who may silently agree with a post to express themselves anonymously, as it were, without incurring the "wrath" of certain belligerent posters: it may lead to some surprising results!

Perhaps we should have a voting option on this.

Why does everything seem to have a "like" or "dislike" button ?
Youtube has been ruined by adverts and the compulsive need of some to make endless stupid comments ...........
what's interesting (sometimes !) about messageboards is that sometimes one gets a bit more of a subtle discussion about MUSIC and less important stuff (like economics etc )

I'm only a newbie here compared to the many seasoned veterans who regularly contribute, so I hope it isn't too pushy of me to say I would not at all like to see this here. I too have seen it in the Comments section on several newspaper sites and find it off-putting in the extreme. Likes and Dislikes are all very fine for social networking sites, but they would be out of place on a forum such as this.
